October 2011

Well, it is official; it is autumn as of Friday!  The colors, the cool weather, the rain, and the blowing leaves confirm that fact.

I love the beauty of this season.  Few things brighten my day more than a peak at the bright reds and oranges of the maples and the yellow of the beech and birch trees.  God’s color palette cannot be captured on any camera or on any canvas.  They are unique, brilliant, bold, and breathtaking.  The psalmist tells us,

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world….  (Psalm 19:1–4-NIV84)

Before we ever learn to read or learn to speak – God is speaking to us.  He displays His glory, His power, His majesty, and His joy in the works of creation.  He reveals Himself in the works of His hands.

The most wondrous thing for me to realize is that we, as human beings, are the apex, the pinnacle of God’s creative genius.  God looked at Adam and Eve and said It is VERY good (Gen. 1:31).  You know you and I know me.  We both know that we don’t feel like the best thing God created.  Each of us knows our own heart and the secret thoughts that run through our minds.  Surely we don’t deserve the privilege and dignity God gives us.  Nonetheless, God created us in His image.  He created us to have fellowship with Him.  He created us to worship Him and serve Him with our lives!  He proved His love for us by sending His most precious Gift, His Son Jesus, to take the penalty we deserve.

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8-NIV84)

Let us all take a few moments to thank God for the beauty of the season, but more importantly, the beauty of the Son, our Savior – Jesus.

Serving Beside You in Christ,

Pastor Bob
